The CPD conference was organised by F2F Events Ltd, sponsored by Spire Manchester Hospital and held at the prestigious International Suite at the Manchester United FC stadium at Old Trafford. A certificate of attendance was awarded for eight hours and many took up the offer of a ‘look in’ at the stadium afterwards.

The day was well planned with an opening and closing panel of discussion, speakers, conference stands, refreshment breaks and networking. The delegates were mainly physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors. Were there any Bowen therapists? I actually stood up to point out that the Bowen technique or other complementary therapies were not listed on a slide presentation when we were asked to vote about a topic. This was when I discovered that I was probably the only one present! However, another Bowen Therapist did come up to introduce himself afterwards, and then we were two. Almost 200 delegates attended and as an audience we were able to vote on issues or show our opinion using a touchpad. The results were combined and shown as percentages on the screen, causing much discussion, surprise and amusement.
Morning moderator Saeed Mohammad, consultant spinal surgeon at Spire Manchester Hospital, opened the conference and introduced panel group members who were presenting one case study each. These were: Jeff Ross (physiotherapist), Philip Owen (osteopath), Brad Williamson (spinal surgeon) and Tim Lynch (chiropractor). Each case study was illustrated on screen with history and assessment for all to share, a strong strategic start to the day as it set the scene for the whole event... bringing together professionals both on stage and in the audience. It highlighted the fact that a practitioner may singularly offer an opinion; whereas a team might bring together different approaches ultimately for the patient’s benefit. The case studies were I felt, a good representation both of sports injuries, and later during the afternoon session, of the aging spine that we might see in our clinics.
The afternoon moderator was Raymond Ross, consultant spinal surgeon at the Spire Manchester Hospital. The ‘Degenerative Spine’ closing panel discussion members were: Mr Verma (consultant spinal surgeon), Mr Dashti (consultant spinal surgeon), Richard Whitehouse (consultant radiologist), Dr Ilan Leiberman (consultant anaesthetic and pain management) and Phin Robinson (physiotherapist).
